This week was socially busy. Our last week in Austin had us making sure we saw as many of our friends as we could before leaving. It was fun, and though I’ve been so over eating out all the time, what made this week wonderful was that each time we sat down at the table with a group of people we love, it was celebratory, filled with loads of conversation and laughter and of course our love of food. This makes up for my exhaustion. Truly.
I’m grateful that somehow, despite the fact that Jon and I don’t have a consistent home and we are always in a new place, we have managed to make friends in most of those places AND we’ve managed to make friends that travel a lot as well. This week, we spent time with Karim and Mendel, both of whom we have dined with in other states and countries over the course of the last few years. I love that about our lives and it lends a sense of family and unity to my world that I would otherwise miss.
That said, by the time we finished our 2 day drive from Austin, Texas to Idyllwild, California with an over night stay in Albuquerque, I was emotional and ready to melt on the floor the second we walked into the Brown Family Cabin (our home base). I’m ready to cocoon for a bit and cook up a storm!
Monday, October 17, 2016 – Austin, Texas – Solo – Chicken salad gluten free wrap with lettuce.
Tuesday, October 18, 2016 – Austin, Texas – Odd Duck Restaurant with the International Diner’s Club (Karim, Mendel, Sarah, Pat, Josie, Jon and I) This meal was fantastic and there was much that came through the table. Mendel asked for one of everything on the menu and the eating and fun began. Most memorable for me was the duck ham (I had never had duck before and it was taste bud blowing). There was also a red fish head that was killer.
