Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution Season 2 Episode 1

April 15, 2011 by Elena Rego 9 Comments

Did you watch it? I’ll share the video below for sure, but more then anything I just had brief commentary…

If you watched last season, you’ll know the drama that arose with all the sugar that is in the colored milk they give kids in school. I won’t get into that now because I’m sure it will come up later and I can post my rantings on how kids shouldn’t be drinking cows milk to begin with. For now, what struck me most about this episode, is something that has begun to really bother me about buying food in general.

Did you notice in the scene where all those kids and moms brought in their school lunches for Jamie to look at? Did you also happen to notice the insane amount of plastic packaging that was involved in all that food? I was struck with the same shock I felt when entering a Fresh ‘N’ Easy for the first time a few weeks back. It seemed that EVERYTHING was wrapped in plastic! And now this show reveals how much of kid’s lunches in the LAUSD does as well.

Is it me, or has everyone forgotten that creating all this needless plastic trash is bad for the planet? Stay tuned… more on this later.

The whole show made me so unbelievably grateful that I didn't have children. I just can't imagine subjecting them to that or having to fight them over chocolate milk. What about where they banned lunches from home? Oh my God, I just can't take it. I'm so glad I only have to feed two adults!

I know. I feel the same way. Jon and I would either have to home school or send out kids to a Waldorf school where this wouldn't be an issue at all. What pisses me off is that these are schools and each meal should be just as educational as the time the kids spend in the classroom. None of the food given to them is healthy or even makes sense given what we know about childhood obesity and the diabetes epidemic taking our nation.

Not to mention what the plastic does to the food in it

Btw…that "colored milk", the pink one, smells like marajuana – Yeah! Isn't that great? And the "milk" is all served in plastic pouches that kids bite open!
