It’s raining. A lot. Coming from 10 weeks in California where they are experiencing a catastrophic drought, the climate here in Maui is a shocking contrast. It has rained here every single night since I returned home two weeks ago. Every. Single. Night.
There is much symbolism in this for me. The stress and exhaustion I was experiencing in California was very much tied into the scarcity of my surroundings. Though in Idyllwild the environment is lush with trees and nature, everywhere I looked and went to carried on it the stamp of something desperately missing… something desperately longed for. The outside was a direct reflection of what was going on within me.
I returned to Maui to get some work done, to touch back into the life I have here and to rest. Replenish. Take a long beat. I came here for the rain, both figuratively and literally.
What does this have to do with food? In a broader sense, this blog about food and the act of feeding ourselves is literally about… feeding ourselves.
I know now that this is very specifically what this blog is about. It’s at the heart of what I’ve wanted to talk about, to share and explore from the beginning. I’ve circled around it, but in truth I didn’t fully understand the message of this blog until now.
How we feed ourselves food, is how we feed ourselves everything in our lives.
The word ‘feed’ here is very interchangeable with care, nourishment, nurture, love, protect, sustain. But I don’t think I really had to explain that to you, did I? Feel the meaning of that sentence with me: How we feed ourselves food, is how we feed ourselves everything in our lives.
The five years of writing on this site and having something to say, coming at it from so many angles, trying to find the right path, the true voice of this website and it all comes down to this one thing.
Stay tuned. Some big changes are coming.
In the meantime, ask yourself: How do you feed yourself? What is the quality and vibration of your rain? Tell me.
