The TED Prize Goes To: Jamie Oliver

March 15, 2010 by Elena Rego Leave a Comment

So its time, I think.  I’ve lulled you into my lovely foodie web, all sane, pretty and soulful.  But there is no containing the obsession anymore! Nope.  Are you ready?  Here it is:

I. Am. In. Love. With. Jamie. Oliver.

Mmmhmmm.  Its true.  And where its a total fan girl love, its still love none the less and you will undoubtedly be hearing about my foodie crush quite a bit here, so get comfy.

We don’t have cable in our home, and I haven’t had it for over 10 years now.  Before Jon and I moved in together 15 months ago, I had no tv whatsoever, and would occasionally download TV shows on the computer.  In the last year, now that I have my IT in house, {wink} we have all sorts of shows that we watch and have on stand by, either through Netflix or other sources.  So its been in this last year that I have caught up on all things Jamie.

I’ve watched all seasons of The Naked Chef, Jamie’s Ministry Of Food, and Jamie At Home, which has been my favorite so far.  I love that we have watched him grow up over the years and his passion for beautifully well made food, that is accessible, simple and healthy has only intensified over the years.  And of course that this passion has lead him on a crusade that now spans two countries.

In the beginning of the above video, Jamie says, “I profoundly believe that the power of food has a primal place in our homes that binds us to the best bits of life.”  Not only did I get chills when I heard him say this, but I completely agree.  What food does to nourish our bodies and our souls is profound.  It also has the power to kill us, and for me, and for people like Jamie, shifting the culture of our relationship with food is paramount.

So you can imagine my thrill when I heard that Jamie had won this year’s TED Prize.  I think that TED celebrates the best of what is human evolution and for them to recognize Jamie Oliver and his food revolution… well, it just makes perfect sense.

So cheers to Jamie!  And cheers to TED and all of us as we embark on this food revolution together.  If you feel inclined, take some time to check out ways to support Jamie’s wish to, “… help to create a strong, sustainable movement to educate every child about food, inspire families to cook again and empower people everywhere to fight obesity.”  The TED Prize page shows you how.  And if you want to sign the petition for Jamie’s Food Revolution, simply click on the badge in my far right hand side bar!  Lets support him and his efforts in any way we can.
