I’m a Martini girl. Not sure how the Martini became my drink of choice, but somewhere along the way, as I would order cocktails here and there, my signature drink became the Dirty Dry Vodka Martini with Ketel One, please.
I’ve shared this before and its always interesting for me to hear about other people’s favorite drink. Is it an adult thing, that has us defining a signature drink after a time? Is it a fad? I don’t know, but it would be fun to see if there are any books out there that do a sort of personality match up with a drink. I have no idea what my choice would say about me.
With that said, my birthday is coming up very very soon. I’ve decided its time I learned to make my drink. I’ve never made one, nor have I ever delved into cocktail making with the exception of a rum and coke or vodka with blood orange soda, which is to die for by the way! So I decided to get direct with my birthday wish asking and created a list of things for Jon to pick from for my gift.
Entitled? Presumptuous? Totally unromantic you say? Whatever. Sometimes parameters can do wonders for getting a cool gift! So I did some searching online. I wanted the tools needed to make Martini’s and created a list of things for Jon to choose from. Wanna see? Here you go!
::BOOKS::
The Little Black Book of Martinis
::SHAKERS::
Lenox Martini Shaker Set
Jaipur Cocktail Shaker This beauty is a dream. Much to pricey, its actually out of stock, but I had to include it here. Isn’t it exquisite?
::GLASSES::
Aren’t these lovely? I would love these with the Jaipur shaker above. Both on the pricier side, and the shaker sold out. But it does make you dream doesn’t it? I want cocktail hour at home to be this marvelously indulgent event that’s both delicious and beautiful. These glasses would certainly make that so.
These are classy, a bit sultry and perfect for an evening cocktail by the fire, no?
Puccini Glassware from Z Gallerie I love these too. Not sure which will come, but I love looking at them.
I like this idea of embarking on a journey to learn the ins and outs of a great Martini. A specialization so to speak, where rather then learning how to make a variety of different cocktails, I am just known for making a mean Martini. Now that its getting cold on the mountain, you can be sure there will be many a cocktails to dive into the evening with.

How exciting to embark on something new…especially mixing new martini concoctions – it's an art. I luv martinis…I go in phases when taking a break from red wine. I would say a lemon-drop martini my Hubby shakes up for me is my fav. I'm looking forward to your martini posts! 😉
elenarego says
Oh! Never tried a lemon drop… *writes that on her list of drinks to make*

Oh, I always give my spouse a LOT of direction when it comes to buying me presents! I am a martini girl too, but I prefer a straight up, dry, gin martini (shaken, not stirred) with an olive. I do like your choice of potential b-day presents!
elenarego says
Not a gin girl, but I will share what I learned the other day, which I found interesting! Gin gets 'bruised' by shaking and is best stirred. Vodka on the other hand benefits from the shaking because it opens the flavor. Isn't that interesting? I learned that on one of the 500 food podcasts I listen to.

I just love cocktail shakers. And look, it's almost 5:00. You know what that means…

I'm a fan of the spicy, a jalapeño or habanero stuffed olive with a vodka martini. Love them that way
elenarego says
That sounds great! I'm a big olive fan obviously, and stuffed is out of this world. Cheese, garlic, chilis, nuts, pestos… I'm sure the options are limitless!
Susan says
So… what does one say about Hendrick's Gin poured over ice, stirred with a lemon twist that has been squeezed and dropped… is that a martini or just a good hot of booze with some citrus?
elenarego says
Susan have no idea! I'm hoping *crosses fingers* that the books I wanted will come for my birthday and then I'll look it up.

Summer, gin and tonic, juice of whole lime.
Winter, whiskey rocks 🙂
Happy Birthday, lovely one!
elenarego says
🙂 Thank you love! What cocktails are we going to be having when I\’m up there? Maybe your world famous hot totties? I. CANNOT. WAIT!
