I’ve long talked about the importance of imbuing our food with conscious energy.
We imbue our food no matter what, but if you direct this energy when you are conscious of what you’re imbuing it with the results become an eating experience that can nourish you far deeper than when you eat quickly and unconsciously of what you’re taking in.
What does this mean? That the energy, attitude, feelings or intention you are holding while you prepare food gets embedded into the food you are touching and preparing and this translates to the person eating the food, whether it’s you or someone else.
For that reason, Food Practice is deeply rooted in intention and how it affects the food we eat and the food we grow.
My Food Practice
For me, one of the key tools in slowing down and making sure that I’m consciously preparing the food I eat and offer to JonBrown or anyone else that I happen to be cooking for, is this very thing; intend and pray over the affects the food will have on those eating it.
You can call it a prayer or a specifically crafted intention. It’s both for me, really. What it does is keep me focused and it keeps me from imposing onto the food any ick from my day – stress, ruminations, frustrations or anything else that might be flying through my being at the time.
The other thing is that to do this practice is to give food an extra bit of nutrition… the kind that feeds the soul, fully. Heart, body, mind, soul.
My Current Prayer
Typically, I offer up whatever intuitively comes up for me while I’m preparing food. It might be healing and nourishment to heal from colds, or joy and connection across the dinner table when it either Jon and I or we’re breaking bread with loved ones.
It can be peace, or clarity, or deep bone nourishment and warmth during Winter months. Sometimes it’s merely an amplification of the healing properties each food already has.
Lately however, it’s been consistent and often it’s a prayer I carry with me all day every day.
My prayer and intentional imbuement over food these days is some variation of this:
“May you feed and amplify that part of our bodies and souls that hold our true mission in this life, that keeps our true north in the world strong, clear and impossible to ignore.”
Things Feel Hard And Despondent Lately
On the whole, our lives (Jon and I) are filled with the usual day to day stresses and questions – nothing too over the top, even when they feel heavy. But what seems to be adding to this is the climate of the world today.
Questions about how we exist while the world seems to be falling apart and how do we contribute to this in a manner that is healing. How will our work in the world contribute to or help shift the way things are right now?
Whatever it is that might have been a stressful in our lives now feels even more amplified as new concerns and frustrations and fears seem to fall over us like some heavy mantle.
I know many of you feel the same. I’ve spoken with you and the answers aren’t easily forthcoming for any of us.
We Must Nourish Ourselves
So this is my prayer. That somehow our mission in this world be revealed fully such that it’s impossible to forget it… even for a day. That somehow we continue to nourish ourselves body, mind and soul so that we can continue on, working, healing and reaching out for one another in love and in peace.
Because without nourishment we can’t do a thing – and this means all forms of nourishment. But food… always food, is at the heart of things.
Eat well, nourish deeply and that it amplify in you all that is glorious and life enhanced and exactly what it is you were put on this planet to be and do.
Much love to you all.
