There are mornings when I’m either on my own because Jon is at his weekly Cafe Aroma work table, or because he is out of town… or because I’m up earlier then he is. Even though we plan our menu for the week and try to eat together at the table as much as possible, it doesn’t always happen. This is just as lovely, I’m finding.
There is something quite meditative about eating breakfast alone in the stillness of a house that has yet to fully wake up. Its an extension of my meditation time in the early hours and just seems to set a peaceful and present tone for my day.
This morning I went outside, as the weather is really just spectacular. As the dog romped around, I had a chance to savor my breakfast while whispering my prayers on the breeze. I like eating alone this way. It makes for a full 3 hours in my morning where I’m alone with my silence and slowly take in the pace and nourishment of the day ahead.
I highly recommend doing this. If you life with a love and a family, try to find a day or two where its just you, a simple breakfast, and silence. No tv, no list writing, not even reading… just you, the silence and your well made breakfast. If you don’t have a morning meditation practice of your own, this can definitely be it for you, if you already do, this just stretches out the sensation of presence you get from being in your meditation.
